Coquihalla Summit Trans Canada Trail Challenge

Last Minute Considerations

  Read Disclaimer.

Please read carefully

The starting point will be at the Britton Creek Rest Area.  It is accessed from the Coquihalla Lakes Exit a few kilometres north of the Toll Booths.  Everyone must check-in to get a number, a package of information to better enjoy the challenge, lunch, and water.  We will be going ahead rain or shine.  We will start the check-in at 8:15 a.m. to be ready for the ceremonies at 10:00 a.m.  We hope to have all participants off on the trail by 10:30 p.m.  Also, there will be the following on sale: Event T-shirts, Trans Canada Trail books, KVR Passports (diary), etc.  At the Hope Info Centre there will be a host TCT bus where you can get Trans Canada Trail information, buy Trans Canada Trail merchandise, and peruse KVR books.

At Britton Creek Rest Area there is the regular food kiosk.

At Britton CreeK Rest Area and Portia

  • Event T-shirts will be for sale along with Trans Canada Trail books and other souvenirs.

  • Passport Diary Books can also be purchased.  The first stamps could be from this event , Trails BC, and Coquihalla Lakes Lodge.  In Hope it you purchase your book and can get it stamped at Blue Moose Coffee House on Saturday evening for the Kettle Valley Brakemen performance.

Shuttle Times

Shuttle to Coquihalla Lakes

  • Meet at the Info Centre in Hope between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.  Take the exit for the Fraser Canyon Highway (#1).  The Info Centre is on the right side of the road as you enter Hope.  If you are using the bike shuttle please be there as early as possible.  We cannot wait for latecomers.
  • Park along the streets, not in front of the Info Centre.
  • Passengers will board busses and bicycles will be loaded unto trucks.
  • We need cyclists to help us in the following ways:
    • If at all possible take a tool along that will allow you to turn your handlebars sideways.  Please do this ahead of time.  Don’t worry about this if it is a complicated operation on your bike
    • It is common to also take the pedals off and carry them with you.  Only do this if you are comfortable with it.  It certainly helps us to pack the bicycles more effectively in the trucks.
    • Help in any way you can to load the bikes.
  • Coffee will be offered by the Lion's Club next to the Info Centre.

Shuttle back to your vehicle (Times will be adjusted if needed.)

  • Cyclists and Runners
    • Portia to Hope (Cyclists and Runners)                                             12:30 p.m.
    • Jessica to Hope (Cyclists)                                                                  1:30 p.m.
    • Jessica to Coquihalla Lakes (Cyclists)                                             1:30 p.m.
    • Portia to Coquihalla Lakes (Cyclists and Runners)                        2:00 p.m. (note that the shuttle from Jessica will be stopping at Portia on the way to Coquihalla Lakes.)
  • Walkers and Equestrians
    • Portia to Hope                                                                      6:30 p.m.
    • Portia to Coquihalla Lakes                                                  6:30 p.m.

Note: There is no shuttle back to Coquihalla Lakes from Hope.  Those going back to Coquihalla Lakes must end their trip at Portia or Jessica – or arrange your own shuttle from Hope.

 What to take with you

Day pack

  • Clothing for changes in the weather.
  • Extra food, special needs food, insect repellent, sunscreen, roll of toilet paper, small shovel, matches and medication.
  • Cyclists should have a patch kit and a pump that fits their bike tube valves.
  • You may wish to take extra water.  There are sources of water along the way starting at Needle Creek if you are prepared to drink water coming off the side of mountains.
  • Suggestion to walkers.  Take an extra pair of socks.  At Needle Creek, change your socks after soaking your feet and take a rest. This is the 14.4 km point, a bit more than half way.

We will supply a small bag lunch (sandwich, vegetable and fruit, 5 oz trail mix), one bottle of water.  There will also be  water stations at Portia and Jessica.  Toilets are at Britton Creek Rest Area and at Portia.  The rest is ‘au naturel’ using the small shovel to bury your treasure(s).

Draw Prizes

Thanks to our numerous sponsors there will be many draw prizes at Portia.  Check your number against the available prizes.  The real prize is having done 27.5 km but this could be a little extra for you.
