From the Ashes - Myra Bellevue Provincial ParkThe Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park forest fire burned through the two local Provincial Parks that are part of the South Slopes: Okanagan Mountain and Myra-Bellevue. In Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park, a committee is developing a plan to replace the trestles damaged or destroyed by this fire. Friends of the South Slopes (F.O.S.S.) fully supports the leadership of the Myra Canyon Trestle Restoration Society in this project. As well as the loss of the trestles, Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park received heavy damage from the fire to the extensive trail system located between the city of Kelowna and the Kettle Valley Railway. This highly used recreational area (known locally as the "Crawford Trails") is popular with mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders. The Ministry of Forests and BC Parks will undertake a damage assessment of the park, and prepare a rehabilitation plan. The Friends of the South Slopes are committed to working collaboratively with them to rebuild the trail system and bring the park back to life as soon as possible. Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park is closed to the public until this plan is implemented and public safety hazards have been addressed. If you wish to help in the recovery of the Myra-Bellevue recreation area, please donate to F.O.S.S. by sending a cheque to:
