Volunteering Opportunities

Throughout BC, Ongoing Timeline: Improving Signs along the TCT:

Have you noticed a general lack of signs along the Trans Canada Trail? We know all about it, and we’re looking for help. If you are interested in improving signs along the Trail route, we’d be happy to hear from you. Please contact us using the Volunteer Form, and make sure to specify which part of the Trail you can help us with!

Help us locate features along the Trans Canada Trail!

If you own a GPS (or just have a very good sense of direction), and you can help us identify amenities along the Trans Canada Trail, such as washrooms, parking areas, interesting features, camp sites, and more, please get in touch with us. All you need to do is walk/ride the trail, mark down the exact locations (GPS location preferred) of these items, and e-mail them to us – we’ll add them to our maps. If interested, please get in touch using the contact form!

Elk Valley (north of Elkford):

Our proposed route north of Sparwood could use some reconnaissance, as we plan to install signs along the route in the next year or so. If you are interested in venturing up the valley, even as far as Elk Pass (Alberta border), we’d love to get in touch with you. Please fill out the Volunteer Form.

Vancouver Island (Cowichan Valley) Summer-Fall 2015:

Interested in putting a shovel to ground for a good cause? The Vancouver Island Spine Trail is constantly looking for volunteers to help build their wilderness hiking trail, throughout Vancouver Island, particularly in the upper Cowichan Valley and Port Alberni area. Please contact VISTA using their web site. Note, this particular part of the Spine trail is not part of the Trans Canada Trail.

Fraser Valley (Chilliwack to Coquihalla) Spring-Summer 2015:

We need volunteers to for trail clearing, brushing, and construction from April to July 2015. We hope people will join our ranks to keep the work load to a manageable level. This is a great way to stay active and make a rewarding and much appreciated contribution. Work is happening on the Chilliwack River Valley, Upper Silverhope, and in the Coquihalla River trail sections on crown land. Volunteers are asked to contact Leon at southwest@trailsbc.ca.

Okanagan (Coquihalla/Merritt Area) May 2015:

The Nicola Valey Explorers work on our bypass routes around the landslides at Juliet Station (between Merritt and the Coquihalla Summit) each spring, as well as other trail maintenance projects in the Merritt area. Contact Murphy at murphy@sonotek.com.

East Kootenay (Cranbrook) Summer 2015:

Trails BC is planning a major trail development between Cranbrook and Wardner , which  will involve trail surface grading, brushing/weeding, tree falling by trained personnel. Interested parties should contact Al Skucas of Trails BC.
